Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for information.
An important representative stated the attack rendered him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
