Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined over 50 million watchers across the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB stated this marks the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the game drew 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-game series drew 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete US viewership was 16.1 million. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M watchers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
