19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his initial title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden championship after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt after March of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has won 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters together, so to win a title is really nice," said tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

The player's defensive play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional victory, took control to create a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a close third set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner earned the title with a point at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
