The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Follows Mixed Feedback
Brinkman assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified employees about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had shown the requirement for a clearer direction.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now reimagining the project with a revised focus, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
Trend of Key Acquisitions
This announcement follows a comparable action taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the complete text from Ismailer's announcement:
Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to continue.”
Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last autumn’s the game demo was revealing. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It revealed the need for a more distinct brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to mind and overhauled the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to fulfill its promise to our players.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome the new hire as the new Director of the team. Following several months of conversations, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.
His management and background in the PVP shooter genre is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most well-known titles in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in welcoming him soon. We are all eager to persist seeing the development of the game in the time to ahead.
The President
